NEW YORK — Stocks had another day of meager gains on Thursday as investors worked through a new batch of mixed company earnings, including results from Facebook, Ford and Whole Foods.
On Thursday:
The Dow Jones industrial average fell 15.82 points, or 0.1 percent, to 18,456.35.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 3.48 points, or 0.2 percent, to 2,170.06.
The Nasdaq composite rose 15.17 points, or 0.3 percent, to end at 5,154.98.
This week:
The Dow is down 114.50 points, or 0.6 percent.
The S&P 500 is down 4.97 points, or 0.2 percent.
The Nasdaq composite is up 54.82 points, or 1.1 percent.
For the year :
The Dow is up 1,031.32 points, or 5.9 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 126.12 points, or 6.2 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 147.57 points, or 3 percent.
