Roofers accidentally start fire with torch, officials say

Roofers accidentally started a fire Thursday while working at Johnny Fontane’s Beach House restaurant, according to Las Vegas Fire & Rescue officials.

The fire did an estimated $40,000 in damage, but nobody was injured, officials said.

Firefighters responded about 10 a.m. to the bar and grill at 5310 West Sahara Ave., near South Decatur Boulevard, where light smoke was coming from the roof of the single-story building, fire department spokesman Tim Szymanski said.

Workers were able to put out the blaze before firefighters arrived, Szymanski said. They told firefighters they were using a torch and caught part of the roof on fire, he said.
