A lawyer says a 23-year-old former Las Vegas high school science teacher and girls' swimming coach will fight felony allegations that he forced a teenage student into a sexual relationship.
Jonathan Scheaffer made an initial court appearance Monday on 11 charges of sexual conduct between a school employee and a pupil.
A Las Vegas judge scheduled a Wednesday bail hearing.
Defense attorney Louis Schneider says Scheaffer and the girl had a consensual relationship that ended more than a year ago, and that Scheaffer obtained permission from the girl's mother at the time.
Prosecutor Michelle Jobe says Scheaffer might also face sexual assault and kidnapping charges.
Scheaffer was arrested last Wednesday.
A school spokeswoman says the former Desert Pines High teacher had already resigned, effective when the school year ended Thursday.
