House fire displaces 12 people, including baby

Twelve people, including a newborn, were displaced after a fire early today at a house near Nellis and Charleston boulevards, according to the Clark County Fire Department.

Nobody was injured.

Clark County and Las Vegas firefighters responded about 12:30 p.m. to the house in the 4900 block of East Imperial Avenue, where occupants reported smelling something burning, county Fire Chief Gregory Cassell said. They found a smoldering fire in the attic, he said.

As anticipated, when firefighters opened up the attic space, the blaze grew and the attic became heavily involved with flames, Cassell said. Firefighters quickly put out the fire, Cassell said.

The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical in nature, he said. Damage was estimated at $80,000, he said.

The American Red Cross was assisting the residents.
