Smoke from wildfires prompts air quality advisory

Smoke from wildfires burning in California and other neighboring states have prompted an air quality advisory in Southern Nevada, according to the Clark County Department of Air Quality. The advisory runs through Monday.

Smoke is made up of small dust particles and other pollutants that can aggravate respiratory conditions and contribute to ground-level ozone formation, officials said.

Unhealthy levels of ozone have not been detected, but it may be best for young children, seniors and people with respiratory problems or cardiac disease to stay indoors, officials said.

The Department of Air Quality also recommends people limit outdoor exertion and keep windows closed in homes and vehicles.

Wildfires are burning across California, including near Los Angeles, San Diego and Santa Barbara. Other fires are raging near Pine Valley, Utah, Albuquerque, N.M., and in eastern Arizona.
