A defense lawyer says a 22-year-old Nevada man will seek to be freed from jail and may argue self-defense in the shooting death of his father during a confrontation in January at the family home in Henderson.
Attorney Mace Yampolsky says he intends to seek a lower bail for Daron Clanton during an appearance Wednesday in Henderson Justice Court.
Clanton is being held on $1 million bail at the Clark County jail in Las Vegas pending a preliminary hearing in on an open murder charge in the Jan. 11 shooting death of 54-year-old Kevin Clanton.
Police say Daron Clanton told them he fetched a gun and shot his father after his father pushed and punched him several times during an argument about Daron Clanton no longer attending college.
