Crash between Lee and Kyle canyons leaves 1 dead

Alcohol and drugs are thought to have been involved in an overnight wreck on U.S Highway 95, between Lee and Kyle canyons, that killed one and injured three others.

First responders were called about 2 a.m. to southbound US 95 at mile marker 94, Nevada Highway Patrol trooper Jason Buratczuk said.

According to Buratczuk:

A yellow Nissan Frontier rear-ended a red Ford Fusion, causing both vehicles to lose control and careen into a desert area where the Ford rolled over.

The driver of the Ford had to be freed by firefighters and was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition. He was wearing a safety belt.

The driver of the Nissan died at UMC.

His passengers, a woman and a 12-year-old girl, also were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The three occupants of the Nissan were not wearing seat belts, NHP said.

Investigators suspect the driver of the Nissan was under the influence. He is expected to identified by the Clark County coroner's office.
