Strong winds prompt advisory in Southern Nevada

Updated Friday, March 11, 2016 | 9:07 p.m.

Strong winds will likely be blasting Southern Nevada should for a few more hours, according to the National Weather Service.

Meanwhile, the weather service advised those driving between Las Vegas and Pahrump to beware of heavy snow and low visibility near the Mountain Springs Pass.

The wind, which showed up this afternoon and is blowing from 40 to 50 mph through the valley, is forecast to decrease around midnight, meteorologist John Salmen said.

A wind advisory remains in place until 4 a.m., he said. No damage has been reported to weather service meteorologists.

As the winds die down Saturday, temperatures are also set to decrease, he said.

The thermometer rose to 80 degrees Friday but it's not expected to climb past 70 degrees Saturday, he said.
