Sometime while being jumped by a group of about seven teenagers, Clinton Englehart's head was kicked and stomped and he was fatally stabbed in the chest, according to Metro Police arrest report.

The incident, which left the 27-year-old lying in a pool of blood, might have been recorded by someone in the group, police said. Englehart, whose city of residence wasn't disclosed, died at University Medical Center.

On Tuesday, Jason Lloyd Carlton II, a 16-year-old being charged as an adult, pleaded not guilty in front of a Las Vegas judge, who scheduled a June 3 preliminary hearing in the April 17 slaying of Englehart.

Carlton was arrested last Wednesday and booked on counts of murder and robbery. He is being held at Clark County Detention Center without bail.

Investigators, according to the arrest report, had not been able to determine who stabbed Englehart, but booked Carlton, also known as "Soupie," because he told them he knew about the plan to jump Englehart, admitted to kicking him in the head and being in possession of the knife allegedly used in the stabbing.

The knife found at the park after the stabbing might've belonged to Englehart because police found a holder it matched on his possession, according to the report.

Officers were called about the beating and stabbing about 8 p.m. at 8635 Spring Mountain Road, near Cimarron Road.

Officers were directed by witnesses to the nearby Desert Breeze Park, where some of the "juveniles" ran after the stabbing.

Carlton, who matched the description of one of the suspects, was arrested at the park, police said. While being taken into custody, he said things to the effect of "had to do it," "I'm going to prison" and "west side."

Carlton was detained, was "very intoxicated" and vomited in the police vehicle, according to the arrest report. He told police he had drank vodka and could not stay awake long enough to answer questions.

He also told them he didn't stab Englehart and did not remember parts of the night due to the vodka, police said.

Detectives let him go free after questioning, but he returned two days later with his parents, according to the report.

During questioning, Carlton told detectives that he'd heard Englehart had been robbed of prescription pills earlier in the day and that the group had intended "to beat the victim up and rob him again."

Englehart didn't see the first punch come, Carlton told police. He said he "kicked the victim in the head because he was afraid he was going to get up."

Carlton picked up a knife from the ground before running off and handed it to someone else who disposed of it in the park, he told police.

The person Carlton told police he handed the knife to told detectives that he was with Carlton when the incident happened and had recorded it on his phone, but later deleted it when he found out someone had been stabbed, according to the report.

That person also said he "interjected" when he saw Carlton punch Englehart and that he had given the knife back to Carlton, police said.

More arrests have not been announced.
