Fallen law enforcement officers honored in Carson City

CARSON CITY — Despite thunder and rain, hundreds of people gathered outside today to pay tribute to law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty.

Flags were at half staff to honor 128 fallen officers in Nevada whose deaths date back to 1861.

This year, the name of Carson City Deputy Sheriff Carl Howell was added to the Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial on the south side of the state capitol grounds. He was shot while answering a domestic disturbance call in August.

Hundreds of law enforcement officers came from across the state to attend the memorial.

“We are truly blessed to have these heroes among us,” Gov. Brian Sandoval said.
