Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., speaks at Center for American Progress Action Fund, in Washington, Thursday, March 17, 2016.

Nevada Sen. Harry Reid says he thinks Gov. Brian Sandoval should vote "none of the above" rather than for Donald Trump.

Reid's comments came in a conference call with reporters on Thursday in which he slammed Trump and said he was the kind of candidate that Republican leaders deserved.

Moderate Republican Sandoval had endorsed Ohio Gov. John Kasich, but said Wednesday once Kasich dropped out that he would choose Trump. Sandoval said he doesn't agree with the billionaire businessman on all the issues, but said the Democratic nominee was not an option.

Reid has spoken highly of the popular Nevada governor, but said Sandoval wasn't helping Republicans in down-ticket races by supporting Trump.

Senate Democratic leader Reid also said his party shouldn't get overconfident about their prospects this election season.
