Police officer indicted in assault of school student, staff member

A Clark County School District Police officer was indicted today on charges of assaulting a student and staff member at a North Las Vegas school last year and falsifying reports, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

James Lescinsky, 45, was indicted on five counts by a federal grand jury in Las Vegas, officials said.

Authorities allege that on May 21, 2015, Lescinsky assaulted and injured a staff member with his police-issued baton, the Justice Department said in a news release. He then hit the student and slammed her into a wall and onto the floor at Jeffrey Behavior Jr./Sr. High School, near Cheyenne Avenue and Commerce Street, the release said.

After the incident, Lescinsky falsified incident reports and lied to his supervisor, saying the staff member and student were wrestling, which was not true, the Justice Department said.

Behavior schools serve as short-term intervention programs — usually four to nine weeks — for students who have committed disciplinary infractions at other schools, according to the district.
