Preliminary hearing slated in Las Vegas murder-stabbing case

A judge set a June 20 preliminary hearing for a 34-year-old ex-convict accused of killing a friend and wounding the man's wife in front of the couple's three children at a Las Vegas mobile home.

Mario Primo Espinoza made an initial court appearance Wednesday on felony murder, attempted murder and weapon charges in the early Sunday shooting death of Salvador Eduardo Ramirez and stabbing of Danielle Demello.

Authorities say the children weren't physically injured.

Police say Espinoza was arrested near the address where the attack took place east of downtown Las Vegas.

Records show that Espinoza has prior felony convictions for attempted home invasion in 2006 and domestic battery in 2010.

He was sentenced to prison both times. A Department of Corrections spokeswoman says he was freed in July 2012.
