1 killed, 1 seriously hurt in crash at Boulder Highway, Russell Road

A crash killed one person and seriously injured another Thursday afternoon, leaving the Boulder Highway and Russell Road intersection closed for hours.

Metro Police officers were called to the scene about 2:45 p.m., according to the Police Department's traffic-information website. According to Metro Police:

The driver of a 1999 Dodge Caravan turned left from southbound Boulder Highway onto Russell Road and was struck by a northbound 2004 Lincoln Aviator. The Caravan's driver and passenger were taken to Sunrise Hospital, where the passenger was pronounced dead. The driver of the Aviator suffered minor injuries.

This is the 69th traffic-related fatality in Metro's jurisdiction this year. It is under investigation.
