An argument led to a fatal shooting Friday morning in the central valley, and the suspect remains on the run, according to Metro Police.

Officers responded about 10:30 a.m. to a report of shots fired in the courtyard of an apartment complex in the 1100 block of Sierra Vista Drive, near Maryland Parkway and Desert Inn Road, Metro Sgt. Jon Scott said.

A man was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he died from multiple gunshot wounds, Scott said.

The suspect ran from the scene, Scott said.

The victim lived in the apartment complex and he and the suspect knew each other, Scott said.

Upon encountering police tape, a driver in a sports utility vehicle started loudly complaining to reporters about what he called increasing violence in the area. "It don't make no damn sense," he yelled. This is sad, dude ... oh my God."

A man who only identified himself as a Californian said he moved to Las Vegas two weeks ago to work as an electrical contractor.

Finding out about the shooting, which he said took place near where some of his acquaintances live, deterred his intentions of settling in the area.

This was the 118th homicide Metro homicide detectives have investigated this year. That's a 34 percent increase compared to the same time period last year when the department had investigated 88 homicides.
