Two small planes collide, crash in New York, with fatalities

NORTH COLLINS, N.Y. — Officials say there are fatalities following an air collision and crash of two small planes in western New York, south of Buffalo.

The Federal Aviation Administration says the crash happened around 9:30 a.m. Sunday in North Collins, New York. One of the planes was a Cessna 120; the other was a Piper PA-28.

Erie County Sheriff's Office Chief Scott Joslyn says people on the aircrafts were killed, but declined to give additional specifics. He says authorities believe the planes departed from Hamburg Airport, about 10 miles away from the crash site.

The FAA says it will investigate, and the National Transportation Safety Board will determine the cause.
