Police investigating possible homicide in central valley

Updated Saturday, April 1, 2017 | 6:26 p.m.

Going off a tip from a concerned citizen, officers found a woman's body and signs of a struggle in a central valley apartment this afternoon, according to Metro Police.

The body of the victim, who was only described as being in her 60s, was under a blanket somewhere inside the apartment, located in the 1300 block of H Street, near Stewart Avenue, Metro Lt. Dan McGrath said in a briefing broadcast online. Officers and medical crews responded about 2 p.m.

The tipster who called 911 told police that he had information about the victim possibly being injured or dead, McGrath said. The tipster, identified as a man, was being interviewed by detectives this evening.

McGrath said investigators believed the woman was beaten and possibly strangled, but it wasn't immediately clear exactly how she died. Officers spotted blood in the apartment and detectives think "she was definitely in a fight," he added.

Further details were not immediately available as the investigation continued this evening.
