Troopers will be keeping a close watch for speeders and distracted drivers on Interstate 15 from Southern Nevada to California over the next two weeks, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
The Nevada and the California highway patrols also will be on the lookout for drivers who don’t move over or slow down for stopped emergency vehicles, officials said today.
Troopers are expecting an increase in traffic through the Las Vegas-Los Angeles corridor due to spring break, officials said. On average, about 45,000 vehicles travel the route each day, which amounts to more than 16 million a year.
Flashing signs will warn drivers to slow down, and the CHP is expected to use aircraft to catch speeders, officials said.
“This stretch of Interstate 15 was once considered one of the most deadly stretches of highway in the country,” the agencies stated in a news release. “With the collaborative efforts of our two agencies, we have managed to reduce the number of fatal crashes in this area through enforcement and education.”
