A woman accused of killing her brother on Monday said she grabbed a gun because she was angry he had stabbed her dog, but she didn’t mean to shoot him, according to a North Las Vegas Police report.

Christie Reed, 52, was arrested on a count of murder in the death of her 63-year-old brother, Darrell Timothy Reed, who was shot in the leg and bled to death before officers arrived about 1:30 a.m. at their home in the 5400 block of Dilly Circle, police said.

Christie Reed told police conflicting stories about what happened but said the gun went off accidentally, according to the report. She initially said the .22-caliber handgun fired when she slipped on a mop but later stated it went off while she was gesturing, the report said.

Before calling 911, she dragged her brother to the front door and called several people to ask what she should do, police said.

The woman said her brother told her to take him to the hospital and that he would tell police he accidentally shot himself, but he was too heavy to move, the report said.

She reportedly told police her relationship with her brother had soured, and she had tried to kick him out of the house. Before the shooting, they had been arguing about the dog, which she alleged her brother had stabbed in the mouth, the report said.

Police said they found blood at the house that tested negative for human blood and apparently belonged to an animal.
