Letter to the editor:

Don’t drop your guard

The Dec. 9 Behind the Wheel column about suggestions for buying a used car from a private party omits the most important suggestions of all:

Never go alone to meet a seller and never ever get in a car with a stranger or invite someone you don’t know to come to your home.

It is an unfortunate fact of life in this day and age that scammers abound and we need to take every possible precaution to protect ourselves.

If I were going to look at a car offered by a private seller, I would insist on meeting in the safest place possible — such as outside a police station.

May sound silly, but better safe than sorry – or worse.
