Gov. Brian Sandoval was named in an NBC News blog as a potential candidate to head the FBI after Director James Comey was ousted Tuesday.

Sandoval was one of three options the blog writers said would swiftly move through congressional confirmation due to being picks “without reproach,” journalists Chuck Todd, Mark Murray and Carrie Dann wrote.

It wasn’t immediately clear how they reached their conclusion or if it’s mere speculation.

Sandoval’s office said the governor had not been contacted by Trump’s administration for any role. “He is focused on the legislative session and serving as governor of the state of Nevada.”

The report comes a day after Trump unexpectedly fired Comey on Tuesday.

The report named Sandoval, U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald and former homeland security secretary Michael Chertoff.

The writers speculated that Trump’s “instincts” would direct him to hire Rudy Giuliani or Chris Christie “but both would be incredibly controversial (then again, Trump never avoids controversy; he runs to it.”
