Police searching for suspect in Friday night shooting

Officers responding to a north valley crash Friday night found a mortally wounded driver and a gunshot hole in the driver's side of his SUV, according to Metro Police.

The vehicle jumped a curb and came to a stop in a crash with a fence and a pole in the 2800 block of North Rancho Drive, where officers and medics responded about 8:20 p.m., police said.

The man, who was shot in his stomach, died at University Medical Center, police said.

An initial investigation did not lead to possible motive or suspect description, but detectives determined there was a possible argument and a gunshot heard in a nearby parking lot before the crash, police said.
