A long line of homemade wooden crosses honoring the 58 victims of this month’s mass shooting will be moved from the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign to the Clark County Museum in Henderson next month, officials announced Friday.

The crosses, created and placed at the site by Illinois resident Greg Zanis, will be moved on Nov. 12, Clark County announced in a release. Items left at the crosses will also be collected to be added to the museum exhibit.

“We must memorialize the strength of this community by preserving the tributes to the extent that we can for cataloguing, and for the benefit of present and future generations of Las Vegans,” Clark County Commissioner Jim Gibson said. “It's important that we preserve as much as we can from this chapter in our community’s history so that present and future generations never forget what happened and how our community responded.”

The county has already begun collecting materials from other memorials, including the memorial at the intersection of Reno Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard and another at Sahara Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard. Some of those items will also be displayed at the museum, the release said.

The 30-acre county museum, 1830 S. Boulder Highway, is open 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. Those interested in donating to the museum can do so through director Cynthia Sanford at [email protected]
