Nevada unemployment rate holds steady at 4.9 percent in September

CARSON CITY — Nevada’s unemployment rate held at 4.9 percent in September, the same as in August, the state Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation reported today. The jobless rate is still higher than the national average of 4.2 percent.

Gov. Brian Sandoval said the figures point to improvements in the economy. Nevada has added some 230,000 jobs and brought down the unemployment rate by nearly 9 percent since the depth of the recession.

The unemployment rates for individual counties will be released later this month.
