A 21-year-old suspect has been arrested in a fatal shooting Wednesday detected by gunfire location technology, according to Metro Police.

Alexis Nava was booked Friday at the Clark County Detention Center on a count of murder, jail logs show.

The ShotSpotter technology alerted Metro about 6:45 p.m. Wednesday of gunfire on Crestwood Avenue, near Charleston Boulevard and Eastern Avenue, police said. No one had called 911.

Responding officers found spent bullets and a trail of vehicle fluid that led them to a two-car crash about 200 yards north, on Houston Drive, police said. The fatally wounded male victim was inside one of the vehicles.

Two days later, a task force took Nava into custody in the same neighborhood.

ShotSpotter uses acoustic sensors to listen for and pinpoint the origin of gunshots. Metro began using the technology in several neighborhoods in late 2017.

Additional details on the investigation and how Nava was identified as a suspect were not immediately available.
