Order blocks garnishment of virus-related aid

Nevadans will be temporarily protected from having coronavirus-related aid garnished, following an emergency directive signed today by Gov. Steve Sisolak .

The order ensures federal stimulus money intended to help Nevadans and their families will not be seized by debt collectors. Nevada is following the lead of its other Western state partners — Oregon, Washington and California — in this action.

“During this period of economic uncertainty and hardship, this is not the time to create additional financial stress on Nevadans who are struggling to make ends meet,” Sisolak said in a statement.

The directive does not apply to child support or alimony, or to restitution for crime victims.
