VA medical center returning to in-person care

The VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System is one of the first Department of Veterans Affairs medical centers to return to in-person care, VA officials said today .

“VA is taking into account guidance from various agencies including federal, state and local officials as we gradually reintroduce health care services,” said William J. Caron, the facility director and CEO. “Safety is always paramount and will continue to guide our decision making.”

The medical center started increasing in-person appointments on May 22. In the coming weeks, it plans to prioritize more nonurgent procedures.

For now, no walk-in services will be allowed. The medical center will also continue to rely on telehealth and phone consults when possible, Caron said.

No visitors will be allowed in the facility unless they are assisting or caring for a patient during their clinic visit.

All those who enter the facility will have their temperature checked and will be asked screening questions about their health.

Waiting areas will also be adjusted to adhere to social distancing guidelines, with fewer chairs spaced further apart.
