One of the biggest spa and fitness centers in Las Vegas has extended furloughs for nearly 200 employees, according to a notice sent to state employment department officials.

Canyon Ranch, located at the Venetian, will extend furloughs for 178 employees into next month, according to the notice filed with the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

Some employees could return to work as early as the third week in September, but others aren’t expected back until Oct. 31 at the earliest.

The business cited a “significant decline in demand” due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Canyon Ranch furloughed nearly 350 employees between March 16 and May 7 during a state-mandated closure of nonessential businesses, according to the notice.

The spa, which is open for business, takes up about 134,000 square feet inside the Strip resort.

“We remain committed to our continued presence in Las Vegas as both an employer and wellness destination,” a Canyon Ranch spokesman said in a statement.
