A Clark County School District bus caught fire on the first day of school, Monday, Aug. 8, 2022, but only the driver was aboard and nobody was injured, according to Nevada State Police.

A Clark County School District bus caught fire and was destroyed on the first day of school, but only the driver was aboard and nobody was injured, according to Nevada State Police.

The incident occurred about 12:30 p.m. on the 215 Beltway, west of Hualapai Way, police said.

The bus pulled to the shoulder of the road before it caught fire because of mechanical issues, police said. A photo released by police showed the bus gutted by fire.

Fuel also leaked onto the road, police said. The freeway was closed in the area for about two hours for cleanup, police said.
