Dylan Phelps returned the opening kickoff of the second half 95 yards for a touchdown in helping the Spring Valley football team opened a double-digit lead against Mojave in a 41-7 win.

Spring Valley only led 7-0 at halftime, and then scored four times in the third quarter to notch a win in the league opener. After falling to score last week against Basic, coach Marcus Teal feels his team got back on track.

“We got humbled against Basic. They put us in our place,” Teal said. “But this isn’t the same team as last year or even 10 years ago. We know we have a good team and we needed to get back to the things we do.”

Teal said that starts with defense, where Rodas Assefa had a 55-yard fumble return for a touchdown.

Tipisone Manu had a pair of 5-yard touchdown runs, Phelps had a 52-yard receiving touchdown and Broderick Wiggins also tallied a score.
