A major transaction in the ever-expanding business of Las Vegas entertainment was announced this week: New York-based Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp. has sold its majority ownership of the Strip’s dominant nightlife company, Tao Group Hospitality, to global investment company Mohari Hospitality. The deal is expected to close next month with Tao Group valued at $550 million, with the profits of the transaction providing a healthy boost for MSG to complete construction of its game-changing venue, the $2.2 billion Sphere going up right behind Venetian. Meanwhile, Mohari, which focuses on luxury lifestyle properties, appears to be a great fit for the continued growth of Tao, which is opening yet another restaurant in Las Vegas at the Aria resort later this month. "Tao Group has grown from an innovator in nightlife to a leader in premium lifestyle and hospitality. Its global footprint of more than 80 branded locations in over 20 markets and best-in-class management infrastructure speaks to the group's tremendous potential," Mohari managing partner J. Allen Smith said in a statement. "We look forward to working with Noah Tepperberg, Jason Strauss and the rest of the dynamic management team to continue growing Tao Group's business."
