The Arbor View football team was defeated 19-9 by Pinnacle of Arizona in the Flagstaff Kickoff Classic at Northern Arizona University on Friday in dropping a second consecutive game to open the season.
But, there were definite signs of improved play from last week’s 25-point loss to Cajon of California, coach Matt Gerber said.
“We battled. We competed with them,” the coach said. “We were scrappy, but we were also very undisciplined with a lot of penalties. Overall, our performance was better than last week.”
Thaddeus Thatcher passed for about 170 yards, Jayden Williams had 100 yards receiving and Kamareion Bell rushed for 55 yards.
Gerber suspects his team will continue to improve, especially with the roster still coming into form. They are waiting on a handful of expected key contributors to join the lineup, he said.
“We are weathering the storm,” he said. “We are slowly getting kids back.”
