Las Vegas Mayor Carolynn Goodman and her husband Oscar, former Mayor, count down to 2023 during Fremont Street Experiences New Years Eve party Saturday December 31, 2022.

The Clark County Department of Environment and Sustainability has issued an Air Quality Smoke Advisory due to New Year’s Eve fireworks.

The advisory will be in effect from Sunday, Dec. 31 through Monday, Jan. 1, 2024.

The county is expecting an increase of smoke — which is made of small dust particles that can aggravate respiratory diseases and pollute the air — from fireworks lit off at the Strip and in neighborhoods across the county.

People who may be most sensitive to these elevated levels of particles include people with respiratory problems, those with cardiac disease, young children and senior citizens. The county is urging people to contact their physicians if they have a medical condition that may make them sensitive to air quality conditions.

Those wanting to limit their exposure to the smoke are encouraged to keep windows and doors closed, consider changing any dirty air filters and limit outdoor exertion — especially on days with high levels of fine particles in the air.
