Former North Las Vegas-based airline head sentenced for not paying taxes

A North Las Vegas airline executive was sentenced Wednesday to prison for willfully failing to pay more than $2 million in employment taxes to the Internal Revenue Service, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada.

William Acor, former president and CEO of North Las Vegas-based Vision Airlines Inc., pleaded guilty in March 2022 to failure to collect and pay employment taxes, the attorney’s office said.

In his role, Acor was responsible for collecting, accounting for and paying to the IRS taxes withheld from employee wages — including federal income, Social Security and Medicare taxes. Vision Airlines was also responsible for paying the employer-matching share of Social Security taxes.

From 2014-16, Acor failed to pay a total of $2,657,254.75 in combined employee tax withholdings and employer matching share of taxes, the attorney’s office said. The government alleged Acor also thwarted IRS collection efforts by transferring assets and income to a third party.

IRS Criminal Investigation investigated the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Schmale prosecuting.

U.S. District Judge Gloria M. Navarro sentenced Acor to two years in prison. He will also pay a total of $1,667,290.46 in restitution to the IRS, the attorney’s office said.
