Metro Police said they were investigating a fatal crash involving a car and a motorcycle this morning just south of the North Las Vegas Airport, according to a Metro Police news release.

The crash was reported about 6:50 a.m. today near North Rancho Drive and Coran Lane, police said. Rancho was closed in both directions, police said.

According to evidence from the scene, the motorcycle was traveling south on Rancho at a high rate of speed, while a Chrysler 200 was going in the opposite direction. As the Chrysler tried to make a left turn into a private driveway, the vehicles collided.

The rider of the bike was ejected, and both cars were ignited. The driver of the Chrysler was able to get out of the vehicle before it was fully engulfed in flames.

The motorcycle rider was declared dead at the scene. The Chrysler's driver suffered no injuries and showed no signs of impairment, the release stated.

The investigation was ongoing, and police advised motorists to avoid the area.
