Las Vegas police: Officer shoots person after vehicle chase linked to reported kidnapping

A Metro Police officer shot a person after a reported kidnapping and vehicle chase that started in Boulder City and ended in Las Vegas, authorities said.

Boulder City Police said dispatchers received a text message about 12:20 a.m. today from a woman stating she had been kidnapped by a male.

Boulder City officers found them in a vehicle near U.S. 95 and Black Hills Road, and a pursuit was initiated when the vehicle fled, police said.

Metro picked up the chase about 2 a.m. near Owens Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard in Las Vegas after the vehicle left Boulder City Police jurisdiction, authorities said.

The vehicle was forcibly stopped near the intersection of Lamb and Charleston boulevards, Metro said.

During the incident, a person identified as a suspect pointed a gun toward a person in the vehicle and an officer fired, striking the suspect, Metro said.

Medics transported the suspect to University Medical Center, where he was in critical condition, Metro said. No additional details were provided about the person or the incident.

Two people identified as kidnapping victims were also transported to hospitals, Metro said. No information was provided about their condition or why they were taken to the hospital.

The incident resulted in Metro’s third officer-involved shooting of the year. Per Metro policy, the identity of the officer involved will be released after 48 hours.
