Las Vegas police: Juvenile shoots themselves after picking up dropped gun

A juvenile suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound today after they apparently picked up a gun dropped by a suspect in another shooting, according to Metro Police.

Police initially received a report of a shooting at 10:41 a.m. at Kell Lane and North Nellis Boulevard, police said.

One victim was located and taken to University Medical Center in unknown condition, police said.

The second shooting, reported seven minutes later not far away in the 1500 block of North Nellis Boulevard, involved a juvenile, who was taken to UMC with a substantial injury, police said.

It is believed the suspect from the first incident dropped his firearm while fleeing the scene, and the juvenile picked it up and shot themselves, police said.

One person was in custody, police said.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and advised people to avoid the area.
