Biker critically injured after colliding with vehicle in Las Vegas

A biker was critically injured after a collision with a vehicle Monday morning, according to a Metro Police news release.

The collision occurred shortly after 6 a.m., at the intersection of East Tropicana Avenue and Mountain Vista Street.

As the motorcycle was traveling east on Tropicana, a Toyota Prius coming from the opposite direction was attempting to turn left onto Mountain Vista. The Toyota failed to yield the right-of-way to the bike, and the front of the bike struck the left front of the Toyota, causing major damage to both vehicles, the release stated.

The motorcyclist, 62-year-old Michael Berglund, sustained substantial injuries and was transported to Sunrise Hospital for further medical treatment, where he was in critical condition as of Monday afternoon. The driver of the Toyota did not report any injuries.

The collision remains under investigation.
