The seniors on the Centennial High School football team had just one victory to their name the past two years.

Friday night, those same players led the Bulldogs to the Class 4A Desert League title with a 35-28 win over visiting Somerset Losee for their 10th win of the season.

“The kids fought,” Centennial coach DJ Campbell said. “To be in this position, especially after the last two years, they are excited.”

Brogan Church’s 4-yard touchdown run with 24 seconds remaining were the winning points.

Centennial’s defense forced a turnover on downs with 1:11 to play to set the table for the game-winning drive. It was the second big defensive play of the night, as Jhbari Christmas had an 85-yard interception return for a touchdown in the first half when Centennial was trailing 7-0.

Stopping the double wing offensive attack of Somerset Losee is easier said than done, Campbell said.

“It was a hard fought game by both teams,” Campbell said. “The offense is so tough to stop. They are so well coached.”

DJ Flores and Mason Garza also scored touchdowns for Centennial. The Bulldogs will play Nov. 20 for the Class 4A state championship at Allegiant Stadium.
