A Metro Police officer was arrested and charged on child abuse charges today, according to a news release.
Officer Joseph Ortega was identified as the suspect, the release stated. He was booked into Clark County Detention Center on two counts of child abuse/neglect and two counts of assault domestic violence with use of a deadly weapon.
Ortega will be suspended without pay, the release stated.
Ortega has been employed with the department since 2017 and is currently assigned to the West Community Policing Division, Northwest Area Command.
