The Oakland Coliseum, home of the Oakland Athletics since 1968, in Oakland, Calif., May 13, 2022. From faking a rainout at a World Series game to a possum in a television booth, the Athletics, who want to build a stadium on the Las Vegas Strip, have rarely been happy at home.

The Oakland Athletics will spend part of spring training at their future home.

The Athletics will take part in Big League Weekend at Las Vegas Ballpark for a two-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers on March 8-9, the teams announced today.

It's the third time the A's will play a portion of their exhibition schedule at Las Vegas Ballpark (2020, 2023), but it will be the first time since Major League Baseball owners unanimously approved the A's relocation to Las Vegas on Nov. 16.

The A's are set to open their new ballpark in Las Vegas in 2028 at the site of the Tropicana. The franchise's lease at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum ends after next season, and the team has explored options of playing games at Las Vegas Ballpark — the home of the Las Vegas Aviators, the team's Triple-A affiliate — starting in 2025.

"We are excited to welcome back Big League Weekend to Las Vegas Ballpark," Las Vegas Aviators president/COO Don Logan said in a statement. "We welcome our major league affiliate, the Oakland Athletics, back for a third visit to Las Vegas Ballpark for spring training games. Las Vegas Ballpark will once again provide an outstanding atmosphere and environment for Major League Baseball. Fans, both locals and tourists that visit during this event, will have a memorable time."

The Brewers, coming off their second National League Central division title in three years in 2023, are returning to Las Vegas for the first time since 1999.
