Police: Retired Metro employee released after fatal shooting because of self-defense factors

A retired Metro Police employee was released after fatally shooting a man last week because of “the self-defense aspects” of the incident, police said today.

The shooting was reported about 1:35 p.m. on Nov. 21 in the 7200 block of Arroyo Crossing Parkway, police said.

Officers found Robert Hoy, 69, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, police said. He was declared dead at the scene, police said.

Detectives determined a citizen, identified as a longtime retired Metro employee, was in his vehicle when Hoy parked his vehicle directly behind him, police said.

Hoy exited his vehicle with a gun and approached the citizen’s vehicle, police said. The citizen then got out of his parked vehicle with a gun and shot Hoy, police said.

The retired Metro employee remained at the scene and has been cooperative during the investigation, police said. His name was not released.

“Based on the evidence learned by detectives and the self-defense aspects of this incident, the citizen was released on scene,” police said in a statement.

The investigation is continuing, police said. When it is complete, the case will be reviewed by the Clark County District Attorney’s Office to determine if any charges are warranted, police said.
