Man killed in shooting near Las Vegas Strip determined to be bystander

A man who was determined to be an innocent bystander was fatally shot late Saturday just north of the Las Vegas Strip, according to a Metro Police news release.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting at about 11:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of South Las Vegas Boulevard, where they found the man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, the release stated. He was transported to UMC Trauma, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police determined the man was walking on the sidewalk when an altercation was occurring at a nearby business. As the victim walked by, an individual began shooting at another man, and a bullet struck the unrelated victim, the release stated.

Marvin Wiliams, 27, was subsequently arrested in connection to the shooting. He was charged with open murder and booked in absentia into the Clark County Detention Center.

The investigation is still ongoing.
