Las Vegas police: Male with knife shot after charging at officers

An officer shot and wounded a male Tuesday night after he charged at officers with a knife just east of the UNLV campus, according to Metro Police.

The male was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he was in stable condition, police said.

Metro dispatchers received a report about 10:35 p.m. of a male armed with a knife in the 1400 block of East Harmon Avenue, police said.

Officers located the person, who was armed with a knife and charged at them, police said. An officer fired his gun, striking the male, police said.

The incident was Metro’s sixth officer-involved shooting of the year.

Per Metro policy, the identify of the officer involved in the shooting will be released after 48 hours, police said.
