Motorcyclist killed in collision with SUV in southwest Las Vegas

A motorcycle rider was killed in a collision with an SUV this morning in the southwest valley, according to a Metro Police news release.

Based on evidence at the scene and witness statements, at about 10:30 a.m., the bike was traveling west on Blue Diamond Road at a high rate of speed, approaching the intersection with South Hualapai Way. Meanwhile, a Ford Explorer was traveling north on Hualapai, attempting to cross Blue Diamond.

The front of the motorcycle collided with the passenger side of the Ford with the force of the collision causing the SUV to overturn, the release stated.

Medical personnel determined the 24-year-old motorcycle rider was beyond resuscitation and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 61-year-old driver of the Ford suffered critical injuries and was flown to UMC Trauma, where he was treated.
