An armed man was fatally shot early today after charging at officers responding to a call of a suicidal person, according to Metro Police.
Emergency dispatchers received a report about 12:40 a.m. of a suicidal person in the 2500 block of Eastern Avenue, police said.
Officers found a man armed with an edged, bladed weapon, police said. They tried nonlethal methods to disarm the man, but he charged at them, prompting two officers to fire their guns, police said.
Medics took the man to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The man’s name was not immediately released.
It was Metro’s second officer-involved shooting of the year. Per department policy, Metro will identify the officers involved after 48 hours.
