North Las Vegas Police: Pedestrian hit and killed by car; driver arrested

A driver was arrested on a DUI count after a pedestrian was hit by a car and killed Sunday, according to North Las Vegas Police.

The incident was reported about 8:30 p.m. near Cheyenne Avenue and Martin Luther King Boulevard, police said.

The pedestrian, a 67-year-old woman, was struck while crossing Cheyenne just east of the intersection and outside of a marked crosswalk, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The driver, Luis Alvarado Lopez, 29, remained at the scene and showed signs of impairment, police said.

Lopez was arrested and booked at the North Las Vegas Community Correctional Center on counts of DUI resulting in death and reckless driving resulting in death, police said.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the woman who died, police said.
