Metro Police shot a man after they say he charged at officers with two knives outside of a business early this morning in the second officer-involved shooting within 24 hours.

The shooting occurred about 4:40 a.m. in the 6400 block of Boulder Highway outside a Jack in the Box restaurant after police received multiple calls about a man armed with a knife who was threatening customers, police said.

When officers arrived, they located the man, who refused commands to drop the two knives he was holding, police said.

The man moved toward the business, at which point police used “multiple less-lethal options” to prevent his entry, Metro said.

The man then charged police, who shot him, Metro said. Police performed first aid on the man until medical personnel arrived and transported him to a nearby hospital. His condition was unknown, police said.

“The job of law enforcement is to keep citizens of this city safe, and when we have an individual that looks like they’re going to cause harm to individuals, we’ll do what we need to do to provide safety for those citizens,” Metro Police Capt. Kurt McKenzie said.

The incident resulted in the second officer-involved shooting by Metro police withinin 24 hours and the seventh this year.

Police shot a burglary suspect Tuesday morning who was in an altercation with a resident, Metro said.
