Metro Police stated they were investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred during an alleged robbery this evening, according to a news release.
Officers were responding to a report of an attempted robbery at about 7:40 p.m. in the 4000 block of South Maryland Parkway. They learned that a man was armed with a knife and allegedly attempted to steal a vehicle, the release stated.
Police located the suspect who was still holding the knife. Despite commands from officers to drop it, he refused to do so.
While officers were attempting less lethal options, the release stated that the suspect charged at an officer who fired his gun in response.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident is still under investigation.
