Metro Police today released the name of the officer who fatally shot a robbery suspect Wednesday evening in a news release.

Sgt. Brett Brosnahan, 42, was identified as the officer who shot and killed a man while responding to a report of an attempted robbery at about 7:40 p.m. in the 4000 block of South Maryland Parkway.

Brosnahan opened fire on the suspect, whom police say was holding a knife, in response to the suspect charging at the officer.
